Unstable Shapes' Delicate Machinery, a record we made in a basement in NE Minneapolis, is finally out in the world for you to listen to, consider, and share. We've been looking forward to this day since we started recording a year and a half ago and now it belongs just as much to you as it does to us.
Over the last year or so, we've released 5 singles, all of which appear on Delicate Machinery, but I still believe in the album format and that this material is best enjoyed as a complete 10 song cycle. These songs are sequenced to play off of and reflect each other, both musically and lyrically, so I encourage you to absorb them as an entire piece.
Though the lyrics on this record often reflect personal experiences, I think many of the themes are universal, especially in these particularly difficult days. Much of Delicate Machinery is about discovering that life doesn't go the way you want it to, a lesson we all seem to be re-learning daily. It's about struggling to make sense of an increasingly confusing world, navigating loss, and being honest with yourself about yourself. But this is not a cynical album. It's just as much about holding onto hope. If you're angry, I hope you can find a space for your anger within these 38 minutes. If you feel lost, I hope you can find comfort knowing you're not alone. If you're desperate, I hope you can find a reason to keep moving forward. Maybe those are lofty ambitions for a noisy post-hardcore album but it's how I feel when I listen to it and it's how I feel when I'm singing it.
Thanks to Mitch, Ryan, Kevin, and James for doing this crazy, frustrating, terrifying, incredible thing with me. Thanks to Knol Tate for helping us realize a dream. Thanks to Rainer at Learning Curve Records for making it real. Thanks to Brad Gunnarson at Copycats and Statusfear Media for the support, guidance, and cheerleading. And, finally, thanks to you for everything else.
